As part of the McMullen Museum’s 2018 spring opening celebration, Cao Jun: Hymns to Nature curator and Boston College Professor John Sallis introduces the exhibition by providing a preview of what visitors will find in the show as well as insight into how the exhibition came together.

In conjunction with Nature’s Mirror: Reality and Symbol in Belgian Landscape, the McMullen Museum invited Professor Sura Levine, Dean of the School of Humanities, Arts, and Cultural Studies at Hampshire College, to examine ways that Belgian artists rendered the industrial landscapes of the Borinage and the pays noir in the period from c. 1880 to 1920.
